About the Garifuna People

The Garifuna (also known as Garinagu) are an Afro-Indigenous people with a rich cultural heritage spanning the Caribbean coast of Central America. Descendants of West African, Central African, Island Carib, and Arawak peoples, the Garifuna have preserved their unique identity through centuries of resilience, migration, and cultural pride.
